In search of new Tampers
Choosing a Coffee Tamper is a purely personal experience.
Coffee Tampers come in all shapes and in varying sizes, most commonly 53mm and 58mm diameter.
The size of your portafilter basket will determine which diameter is required, but this is where the challenge steps up a notch. Concave, Convex, Flat, US Curve, Euro Curve – these are but some of the surface area shapes, Stainless Steel, Aluminium, Brass, Copper – a selection of the metals available, and last but not least the handle, from turned wood to stiff rubber, powder coated or anodised aluminium – there is a handle to suit you.
5M Coffee will be producing a range of branded Coffee Tampers for inclusion in the 5M Coffee Barista’s kits, available later in 2008. We are currently sourcing our materials supplier and evaluating a number of options, trialling these on a small number of home machines.
